9mm Boot Pistol - Long Barrel - Concealed Trigger

An unusual concealment weapon, this 9mm smoothbore pistol has a 4 1/2 inch barrel with short straight grooves at the bore to reduce fowling and an oversized "bag" style grip to allow it to be held in the top of a below-the-knee boot for easy access. The concealed trigger was designed to facilitate drawing the weapon and reveals when the hammer is pulled back to half-cock.

Manufactured in Liege, Belgium (circa 1840-1845).

A close-up of the scroll work on the frame of this pistol showing the "Liege" proof mark and the initials "DR" forward of the junction of the barrel and frame.

A view showing the trigger in the open position and ready for firing. The trigger opens when the hammer is pulled back to half-cock.

A close-up view of the folded trigger, showing the detailed scroll work done on this weapon. There is another set of the initials "DR" stamped just forward of the trigger before the junction of the barrel and frame.

A final close-up of the engraving done on this pistol, this time located at the upper rear tang, behind the hammer. One of the reasons that I have been so attracted to these Belgian Manufacture pistols is the high degree of craftsmanship exhibited in their manufacture. Elegant design and tasteful embellishment in a large bore, small frame pistol.
