Smoothbore Double Barreled 9mm

This short but heavy pistol has two 2 5/8 inch smoothbore barrels mounted side by side and staggered triggers in an oversized triggerguard. This weapon shows signs of heavy use (but good maintenance) as most of the engraving is worn thin and the stock has a few dings and bruises as well as a small damaged area at the junction to the frame where the wood is the thinnest.

Manufactured in Liege, Belgium (early 1840's)

Overall Length - 7 1/2 inches

Overall view of this interesting little pistol showing the double barrel/trigger configuration.

I was amazed at the girth of this well made little pistol. This view shows the double hammers, hammer tang engraving and inlaid oval silver escutcheon.

A close-up of the silver inlaid escutcheon. These embellishments were usually an indication that this weapon was produced for the upscale market of the period. I am always impressed by the woodworking skill exhibited in these inlaid elements.

In addition to the "Liege" proof, this pistol has a "Crown over backwards P" stamping on both barrels. The frame engraving shows signs of wear and it appears that this pistol was used frequently but well maintained.

The opposite side of the frame again showing the "Crown over backwards P" barrel stamp.

A close-up view of the two hammers and engraving on the tang. The hammer plate is pitted and the engraving is worn, showing use.

A close-up of the very wide triggerguard showing the remains of the Starburst engraving that frequently appears on these Liege manufactured pistols.
